Hello
Dr. Malott,
I stumbled upon your guide which helps undergraduates get information
and getting into graduates school that have ABA in them. I want to
thank you because for the first time I have actually received some
helpful advice and guidance. I really don't like computers, which
I know is a bad thing for my generation, so it's hard for me to find
information about grad school. My professors just tell me to look
up schools on the computer or go to a bookstore. In your guide you
actually listed names of schools and other websites that would help.
Not only was your paper informational, but also very warm, and for
that I'd like to thank you.
Very Gratefully Your,
Jennifer Skadden

Dear Dr.
Malott,
My name is Vanessa Villa and I have just completed a course on behavior
analysis at Florida International University. I wanted to thank you
for your textbook. It was the most interesting, easy-to-read and understand
text I've ever had to read for a course and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Villa

Things
are merrily rolling along at MWC. As I mentioned, the text (Principles
of Behavior) has been a real hit in many ways: students love it; it
has prepared several of my students for a very competitive internship
with the Baltimore Aquarium for training of dolphin - the staff now
prefer psychology students over earlier preferred biology students
because they really don't have to train them in principles of behavior;
the book is required for an internship where students work with local
children with autistic behavioral problems; and the book is an excellent
preparation for students who take my more advanced course in Analysis
of Behavior. So, you can see that your text has had quite an impact
here at Mary Washington College.

Dick,
I've adopted
the 4th edition for a course ("Introduction to Applied Behavior
Analysis") I'm teaching as an adjunct at Cal State-Bakersfield
in CA. I have mostly senior psych majors, and sadly, it's their first
exposure to aba - they love the text. We're through Chapter 5, and
they're taking their first exam tonight.
As an
aside, I first read EPB (1st edition) as a student under Darrell Bostow
at Univ. So. FL in '71. That text probably influenced me more than
any other academic text I'd read to that point. I came to a fork in
the road and took it - went to Drake and got an MS in aba under Scott
Wood (my advisor), Larry Alferink, Ken & Maggie Lloyd, et. al.
I used EPB as the text when I taught General Psych. in the Human Services
Program at Ellsworth College. I've since taught aba as an adjunct
at both the graduate and undergraduate levels at universities in Iowa
and CA, using various other texts. Now I'm back with EPB - where my
roots lie in aba - and I'm very happy with it. It appears to still
be the best book on the market. Thanks for writing back.
